A sun pipe is a daylighting system that harness sun light trough domes located on the buildings roof and transports it several metres to the inside trough highly reflective pipes. With that, we can light dark spaces or spaces without windows even when they are not directly under the roof.
The result are bright and lively spaces thanks to daylighting. We can achieve productivity increases in offices, student’s better performances in schools, higher sales levels in shops... All that by using a free and sustainable energy source that doesn’t need maintenance.
Anywhere you can reach with the pipe from the roof. It is important that the dome is in a very sunny area along the day, that doesn’t have shadows coming from trees, walls, buildings. To get a uniform distribution on the space to enlighten , the best solution is to locate the diffuser in a centred position in the space. What do we see from outside? We see a dome similar to the conventional ones which adapts perfectly to the roof and the rest of outgoing elements. It can be round, square or rectangular, and with a wide range of measures depending on the model you have chosen.
We see a frame in the ceiling that holds a diffuser trough which the pipe’s light comes out. The frame can be made of aluminium, stainless steel, or white painted and the light exit can be round, square or rectangular depending on the model you have chosen.
Reflective mesh DEPLOCELL® is a patented device that redirects low angled rays to the inside of the pipe, improving dramatically its performance along the early morning and late afternoon hours during winter months. It consists on an only high reflective aluminium piece . It should be SOUTH orientated when installed.
All components assure a perfect leak proofing. The dome’s design assures always an overlap between its different elements which prevents water from entering, even when it rains with heavy winds. There is a leak proof joint between dome and flashing that seals the system avoiding any kind of filtration.

Trough a double dome with air chamber that avoids contact between hot air inside the pipe and cold dome surface. Also the sealing system in the dome and the diffuser avoids the circulation of wet air and thus avoids condensation.
The flashings , have isolated walls in order to avoid condensation in its interior side, that avoids moistness and dripping ( even with quick temperature drops).
Every connection is sealed by a leak resistant joint totally airtight which avoids the insects or dust entrance. The pipe itself is also sealed to create an airtight chamber . The diffuser’s frame has also a rubber joint that assures the tightness also there.

The light delivered by a pipe is defined in LUMEN (average and maximum) in the characteristic’s charts of every model depending on its length . The lighting level of a DEPLOSUN ® sun pipe depends also on other factors such as : exterior level of light, season, hour of the day.
As you can see in the chart the amount of light will decrease when the pipe is longer. That’s because the small losses in every reflection are accumulated. In order to reduce the loss DEPLODUCT® pipe is designed with a high specular reflection index of 98%.
The maximum amount of light is obtained during the spring and summer months, when the sun is high and enters in a very vertical way into the pipe. During autumn and winter the sun height is lower, this implies a bigger number of reflections inside the pipe. In order to minimize those differences we have designed DEPLOCELL® reflective mesh which redirects sun rays in a way that optimizes its performance.
Along the day the maximum light level is around solar noon. During the early morning and late afternoon hours, the sun is low and less intense so the DEPLOCELL® reflective mesh is again very important to improve its performance.
Yes, but less. DEPLOSUN® is a sun pipe and it will deliver the available amount of light. The maximum performance will be in sunny days but in cloudy days DEPLOSUN® will also give light but less amount , as it will also happen with a conventional window.
According to Spanish Norma Técnica de la Edificación NTE-QLC/1973 the necessary light level in a space depends on the use of this space.

200 LUX Stairways, kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms, libraries, lobbies, archives, museum and low precision working areas.
300 LUX Dinning rooms and halls in hotels, restaurant, coffee shops and bars, gymnasiums, medium precision working areas.

The light that comes out from a DEPLOSUN® sun pipe trough the DEPLO·DIF® diffuser is distributed according to the graphic. The Maximum light is exactly under the diffuser and decreases when we move away from it.
The light level we have under the DEPLOSUN® sun pipe, can be estimated by the following formula:
E: Average iluminance level (lux).
F: Luminous flux flow issued by the pipe (Lumen).
Fd: Distribution factor in a spot (from the graphic).
h: Distance from diffuser in the ceiling to the measurement level (m).
Use Fd=1 to obtain a light level average value . Use Fd values from
the graphic to obtain estimates in different spots on the lit surface.
